Equine therapy for physical, cognitive, and emotional empowerment.

We offer specialized therapeutic riding lessons at two beautiful locations on Hawaii Island.

The mission of Aloha Therapeutic Horsemanship is to provide rider-focused equine assisted therapy for our community members with physical, cognitive and/or emotional challenges.

Benefits of Equine Assisted Therapy:

Animals can be extremely therapeutic. Horses in particular can uniquely help individuals who have experienced physical challenges due to illness or injury regain balance, core strength and flexibility.

Many have learned to walk again. It has helped individuals with emotional challenges learn to manage anxiety by building confidence and inspiring courage. When mounted, the rider’s body rhythmically moves with the horse.

Therapeutic Horsemanship with Ms. Robbi has helped my son with behavioral and emotional dysregulation control his faculties. This approach is very unique but very appropriate for my son and his peers. The techniques produce a calming effect on our child which results in increased focus and reduced anxiety. My son has been in the program for 3 years now. His progress has been palpable and observable at home, in school, and in the community. More power to Ms Robbi, Mr. Phil and all the lovely volunteers that make this all possible

Our History

Recognizing the lack of equine assisted therapy (EAT) on the Big Island of Hawaii, a small private program was started in 2022. Lessons were offered at both Waikoloa Stables in Waikoloa Village, HI and at Horseplay Equestrian Center in Holualoa, HI. As the program grew, it was incorporated as a Limited Liability Company in 2024.

With the increasing demand for EAT, the associated expenses and the desire to provide subsidized lessons, it became clear that the program needed to become a non-profit organization. Thus, in 2025 Aloha Therapeutic Horsemanship was established.

Volunteering

We are always looking for new dedicated volunteers. No equine experience necessary. We will train teens to adults. Ages from 13 + (exceptions based on equine experience). Volunteers will lead, sidewalk, groom, tack and untack. Safety is our top priority and fun for all is 2nd!

We can’t do our program without our enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers. You are Very Appreciated! Many of our volunteers find helping our students rewarding and often see significant progress. Students that volunteer can get community service credit for a purposeful and rewarding activity. Come be a part of this amazing journey with us!
